Ferro sat at the edge of the bed, as Sterling lay in it, clutching pillows for comfort. By the sound of his voice, it seemed like Sterling was crying. “I’m sorry I’m not everything you hoped, Ferro,”
Another failed attempt at having sex fresh in Ferro’s mind as they thought of what to say. They were frustrated, but they didn’t want to hurt their love more. And the last thing they wanted to do was force him. “It’s alright, Sterling… I think I’ll sleep on the couch tonight,”
Ferro had to work the next night, so they needed the sleep. They did grunt work for an open market. Helping traveling traders set up their stalls. It was tiring work for meagre pay, but Ferro couldn’t get much better.
“You seem down, is something the matter, Ferro?” This was Crane speaking. A mature traveling merchant that Ferro had been working with for the last week.
“I guess paradise wasn’t what I’d thought it would be,” Ferro said. Crane seemed wise to Ferro. They were a retired Escadain adventurer. Saw the entire world and decided a quieter life was more his taste. So when he asked them if they wanted to talk about their problems in the privacy of his wagon, they jumped on it.
“...He started realising he might be asexual while we were dating, which is fine but…”
“It’s not what you signed up for?” Crane finished Ferro’s sentence.
“Yeah, moreover… I can’t help but feel like I caused it. Like am I really that unattractive…” Ferro said.
“Well, that last part is ridiculous,” Crane placed a hand on Ferro’s back. Comforting at first, but creeping lower and lower as he speaks, “Your one of the cutest little Verlings I’ve ever seen, and your voice sounds so lovely.”
Reactively Ferro smiles, “Nobody has ever complimented my voice before…” The warm tinge of something they’ve missed hits them. Before the reality of their life pushes it away, “Wait, are you flirting with me? You know I can’t… No matter how much I want too…”
“I don’t want to get between you and your love, Ferro. But if this is something you want…” Crane leaned in close enough for a kiss, “I’m leaving tomorrow, so no one would ever know. It’s like it will have never happened.” Against their best judgment, Ferro leaned in too. And after a long passionate kiss, they let out those damming words.
“Never happened, huh… I like the sound of that,”
If Crane liked the sound of Ferro’s voice. It must have been a real treat for him to hear them moaning under them like they did that night. Crane was an experienced lover, and he played Ferro like an instrument. Squeezing out notes of lust and pleasure.
It was probably the best sex Ferro had ever had. A fact that had always made Ferro feel worse about the whole affair. Every errant thought about the night being pleasurable seemed to drive home how bad of a person they were. Each event sliding into the pro column felt like betraying Sterling over and over again. Even now that it was a distant memory.
Crane reached down to play with Ferro’s dick as he fucked them. He seemed to be able to read Ferro like a book. Keeping them on an edge of an orgasm long enough that they were leaking pre, and whining out, calling his name. So full of nothing but want in that moment. It was shameful, but fitting. It was want that got them there. To cheat.
They came together, in the end. The deep press of Cranes dick making their body twitch and spurt as they were wrapped in an orgasm together. Ferro felt it unfair. That kind of feeling should only be reserved for people in true love. But a simultaneous orgasm was just something based on luck, maybe a little skill. Anything but love...
Ferro came home late that night. Sterling was already asleep on their bed. They lay down next to him, eyes open, staring at the ceiling. They couldn’t sleep like this, not yet at least…
Ferro went to the living room, and pulled a chair to the window. They sat and waited. And waited and waited. It was an hour before they saw what they sat down to see. Crane’s wagon heading to the horizon. Leaving town…
“After tonight, it will be like it never happened…” Ferro whispered to themselves as they watched. The wagon took a long winding pass up the highest hill in sight. When it reached the top, they whispered words again. “It will be like…” The wagon disappeared over the hill, out of sight, “It never happened.” Ferro closed their eyes, and they started to cry…
It was many hours before Sterling awoke. He awoke alone in bed and rubbed sleep from his eyes as he looked around the bedroom for Ferro. He didn’t find them. He got up and walked about their home. They were concerned to find Ferro on a chair facing the window. “Is everything alright, Ferro?”
“No, I’m sorry,” Ferro turned to face their love. Tears were rolling down their guilt ridden face, making streaks. “I need to tell you something…”
