5 Dominoes on the table. Ferro picks up the first in the apparent line, it’s a 3-5 domino. A design of a flame etched onto its back. No not a flame, a hearth. The warming comfort of a roaring fire, or the namesake of the drug they used to numb their pain. Either way hearth meant home. They place the piece gently back into the line. 5 more nights before there were no more Dominoes to fall, perhaps home wasn’t much further…
Ferro roused from their light slumber as the wagon jolted and slowed, arriving at the rest stop in which the Driftwood called home. And while they could scarcely call the Driftwood their home now, they still wanted to see it again. Perhaps for the last time.
It was very much as Ferro remembered it. They weren’t gone that long, so it’s not like they expected much to change. But it was like a portrait of the past. Right down to a sulking dark Verling behind the counter, so in their thoughts they didn’t even notice a guest come in. Only this time it wasn’t Ferro behind the counter.
“Hey Coal, something on your mind?” The adorable young Verling looked up from his lap.
“Oh hey Ferro, didn’t expect to see you again so soon,” his greeting smile faded as he continued on. “And it’s just personal stuff. You know. Breakup…”
Ferro sat down in front of Coal, setting themselves in. “I know how hard those can be, believe me…” Ferro shakes their head, keeping painful memories from surfacing. “You know, if you need to talk about it. I’m here.”
Coal was taken aback by Ferro’s sincerity. He looks them in the eyes and smiles, “Thank you Ferro, but I’m past talking about them. We had our time together and I’m glad we did, even if it was short. I guess my issue has more to do with right now…” Coal fidgets with his hands a little, “I’m not really ready to be with someone again, but I guess I’d maybe want to have some fun outside of a relationship in the meantime. Y-you know what I mean, Ferro?” Coal was blushing so hard Ferro could see it through his black fur. It wasn’t hard to figure out what he meant. Especially since it was exactly what Ferro wanted after they were parted from their relationship too. “You know, I’m too shy to do that anyways. I’m not really cool enough to hit on anyone successfully,”
They tried to comfort their friend “Awwn Coal, don’t say that. Honestly hooking up has nothing to do about being cool. It’s mostly just being honest, and getting used to rejection. Even people who get laid all the time only hit it off with a new person like, a third of the time. Reason they can always get a date is because they move on if someone isn’t interested. They get rejected quicker.”
Coal scratched his head, “What do you mean by being honest though. Like with myself?”
Ferro chuckles, “Well definitely be yourself, not doing that just blows up later. But be honest with what you want and how you feel. Like when you’re sweet talking someone, just look them in the eye and tell them what you like about them!”
Coal fidgets all flustered. “I don’t know, that still sounds hard.”
Ferro puts their paws on top of Coals, looking him right in the eye. “C’mon, practice it with me. Pretend I’m someone who caught your eye at a tavern.”
“Are you sure this is appropriate, Ferro? I mean you are my boss!”
They laugh, “Have I ever acted professionally, Coal?”
Coal giggles, making eye contact with Ferro for a moment before shyly looking down. “I guess that’s something I like about you, you're really laid back. Don’t really demand much of me, yet you still make yourself available if I need help.” Coal manages to keep eye contact through the rest, “You're really sweet. You gave me the chance I really needed, letting me take care of this place. And I think you’re cute and cool and I like it when you’re around.”
Ferro smiles, “That was really good Coal, haha. Didn’t think it’d be so personal, thought you’d just say I had nice eyes or something like that. Anyways, just say something like that to the next person you want to bed, and It’ll probably go just fine.”
Ferro takes their paws off of Coal’s, trying to pull away, before Coal reaches out and grabs their wrist. “H-hey Ferro… There’s something I wanna say again…”
*****
It felt strange being invited into what was once their old bedroom. To be kissed deeply by its new inhabitant, and rolled onto your old bed. Coal’s new bed. But he was welcome to fuck whomever he wanted in his room, and if whomever happened to be Ferro. Well they couldn’t say no to the adorable little Verling’s request.
Coal took the lead at first, lips pressed firmly against Ferro’s. His tiny paws run up and down their body exploring their soft curves delicately. His touching becomes hesitant around their dick, completely freezing up the first time his paws make contact. Even now, Coal was a shy shy boy.
Ferro decided to take this moment to shift control, rolling Coal onto his back, and placing kisses on his cute freckled face. Ferro’s tiny throbbing excitement rubbing against Coal’s bottomwear. It was uncommon for a Verling of Coal’s status to wear clothes at all, Ferro certainly didn’t most of the time. But it was still not as bad as having to tear off the layers of nonsense Cyan wore.
Ferro shimmied his pants down a bit, a mix of shock and pleasure came from Coal in the form of a small yip, as dick made contact against crotch fur. “Uhhh, Ferro.” Coal stammered, “There is something I should tell you.”
Ferro chuckled, “I think you don’t need to seduce me anymore.” Ferro kissed his neck as they shimmied his pants down to his knees, “And I can tell you’re nervous, we can just rub dicks a little if you want.” Ferro’s member rubbed against the soft fur of his crotch, reaching down his paw to bunch their dicks together so they could throb against one another in twined ecstasy. But Ferro’s grab came up, a little short.
“Yeah, about that…” Coal said embarrassed, as Ferro leaned back and looked at Coal’s downstairs. Slim tummy led to smooth crotch, down further to plump thighs. In between those thighs was a pink slit with puffy lips. Things started to make more sense. “I’m sorry, should have told you sooner, just didn’t think we’d. You know… So quick.”
“I mean, you have nothing to apologize for. It’s just, you pass really well!” Ferro chuckled nervously, staring at Coal’s pussy with slight disappointment as they spoke, “I guess I just never seen one in person before...”
Coal nestled his face against Ferro’s chest, scratching his ear with a free paw. Clearly so embarrassed he wanted to hide himself. “I thought you said you’d been with girls before.”
“I mean, I have. They just always had dicks. I guess I’m not super attracted to pussy…”
“Oh…” A wave of shame washes over Coal, they close up and look away, “You don’t need to. You know… You don’t need to do this with me. Sorry, I should’ve told you earlier. Get rejected quicker, right....” Ferro notices tears forming in the corner of their friend’s eyes.
Ferro had hurt him, that was clear enough. A symptom of their lack of empathy. They could never know how something would be perceived until after they’ve seen the reaction. But even if they couldn’t empathize, Coal was important to them. Not just important, more than that… Perhaps it was time to take their own advice, just look at him, and be honest.
Ferro spoke softly, stroking Coal’s fur. “Coal, you are one of the most adorable guys I’ve ever met. In every sense of the word. Your body, your cute noises, and your shyness is endearing and hot. You could have nothing down there for all I care, I’d still want to fuck you.”
Coal calmed, his demeanor softening again. He leaned forward giving Ferro a small kiss, one that they returned, Before Coal gave it back even harder. They traded, swapping kisses until it became just one entangled form of tongue and caressing forms. In the end, Ferro's fifth night was spent in the warmth of the Driftwood’s hearth. With the warmth of the old building mixing with new company, all combining into something sweet, wholesome and all but missing in their life. Ferro felt like they were home, even if they couldn’t call the Driftwood that anymore.
